Judge Denies Extra Discovery In Fight Over Deepwater Deal

Law360, New York (September 26, 2012, 10:05 PM ET) -- A federal judge on Wednesday denied a series of discovery requests by opponents of a $7.8 million class action settlement between BP PLC and victims of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, ruling the evidence they sought was unnecessary.

“The bottom line is that the proposed discovery will neither materially advance the objectors’ objections nor assist the court’s consideration of the fairness, reasonableness and adequacy of the settlement agreement,” Magistrate Judge Sally Shushan said.
