Chevron Trial Over $19B Ecuador Verdict Set For October 2013

Law360, New York (October 18, 2012, 2:39 PM ET) -- A New York federal judge on Thursday set an Oct. 15, 2013, trial date for Chevron Corp.’s racketeering suit alleging an attorney for pollution claimants in Ecuador led a global extortion campaign to win a $19.2 billion Ecuadorean court judgment against the oil giant.

At a hearing Thursday, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan said that, barring a delay due to a separate criminal case on his schedule, the trial would begin Oct. 15. Judge Kaplan urged attorneys on all sides to complete discovery requests by Nov....
