Walgreen Sued Over Baby's Death From Cold Medicine

Law360, New York (November 15, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- Less than a month after the Food and Drug Administration issued a crackdown on over-the-counter cold and cough medicines given to children under the age of six, an Illinois woman has sued Walgreen Co. and McNeil-PPC Inc. over the death of her infant due to ingredients in the cough medicine.

Dimitria Alvarez of Bloomington, Ill., filed suit against the two companies on Wednesday in Lake County Circuit Court for their roles in selling her the infant cold medicine that eventually killed her 4-month-old son in 2001....
