Rice Sellers Threatened With Prop 65 Suits Over Lead, Arsenic

Law360, New York (February 20, 2014, 6:45 PM ET) -- A consumer group threatened Tuesday to sue Unified Grocers Inc. and other businesses in California under the state's Proposition 65 statute because they allegedly sell rice without warning consumers that the product contains lead and arsenic.

Consumer Advocacy Group sent letters to Unified Grocers, Marquez Brothers International Inc., Super King Markets and others saying that they sold rice containing either lead or arsenic, which are both on the Prop 65 list of substances known to cause cancer and reproductive toxicity.
