Powers To Pay $16M To Settle Big Dig Cave-In Suits

Law360, New York (December 17, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Powers Fasteners Inc. no longer faces criminal manslaughter charges over the fatal 2006 ceiling collapse in Boston’s Big Dig tunnel after agreeing to settle prosecutors’ civil claims for $16 million, the Massachusetts attorney general announced Wednesday.

The $16 million settlement, lodged in the Suffolk County Superior Court, comes two years after Attorney General Martha Coakley accused Powers and other companies directly involved in the construction and management of the Big Dig of negligence and breach of contract.
