Fla. Jury Sides With Philip Morris, R.J. Reynolds

Law360, New York (March 25, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- A Florida jury has found in favor of Philip Morris USA and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in one of the first of many individual product liability and wrongful death suits to go to trial against Big Tobacco.

Following a two-week trial, a jury in the Circuit Court of Pinellas County, Florida, on Tuesday sided against plaintiff Mary Gelep, who had filed negligence claims against Philip Morris on behalf of her deceased husband, Alexander Gelep, the company said in a statement.
