NY Ill-Prepared For Possible Fracking Expansion, Enviros Say

Law360, New York (May 07, 2012, 4:57 PM ET) -- New York state's efforts to regulate wastewater from low-volume hydraulic fracturing operations at existing gas wells are lacking, a green group said Friday, as the state considers allowing high-volume fracking.

Freedom of Information requests to the Department of Environmental Conservation by Environmental Advocates of New York showed the state was home to more than 6,600 wells, most of which use low-volume fracking, as of 2009 — the most recent year for which data is available — the group said.
