Law360, New York (July 18, 2012, 6:58 PM ET) -- If New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration expands high-volume hydraulic fracturing in the state, experts said Wednesday he could face a budget showdown next year if lawmakers who oppose fracking conclude insufficient resources are being deployed to regulate the controversial gas drilling method.
Such a fight, in which Albany Democrats especially could be seen playing hardball on key spending measures in order to devote more resources to fracking regulation, would come in a state already struggling to make its budgetary ends meet.
