Peabody Says SEC Investigating Prairie State Coal Plant

Law360, New York (February 26, 2013, 1:47 PM ET) -- Peabody Energy Inc. said Monday that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has subpoenaed the company for documents relating to its development of the 1,600-megawatt, coal-fired Prairie State Energy Campus in southwest Illinois, which the company has billed as a more sustainable power plant.

The company said the SEC served the subpoena in January and that it is cooperating with the investigation. A spokesperson for Peabody did not immediately respond to request for comment Tuesday.
