Antitrust Fines Should Be Lesser For Hard-Up Cos.: EU

Law360, New York (May 12, 2010, 1:04 PM ET) -- The European Commission has announced it is willing to cut down fines for companies found guilty of anti-competitive behavior if they can show the fine would put them in clear financial difficulty.

The commission may consider allegations of inability to pay under a certain clause of the European Union's competition guidelines, European Commissioner for Competition Policy Joaquin Almunia said Wednesday.
