DOJ Clears Path For Perdue, Coleman Merger

Law360, New York (May 02, 2011, 10:24 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division on Monday closed its investigation into Perdue Farms Inc. parent company's proposed acquisition of Coleman Natural Foods LLC, saying there was no evidence to suggest that competition among chicken processors would be harmed.

The DOJ probed FPP Family Investments Inc.'s merger with Coleman amid concerns over a deal between two buyers of services from chicken growers. Such a merger, antitrust regulators said, could increase the market power on the buying side.
