GOP Sen. Threatens Shutdown To Force NRC Confirmation

Law360, New York (March 15, 2012, 2:09 PM ET) -- Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions threatened Thursday to shut down the Senate if President Barack Obama fails to renominate a Republican appointee to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission whose term expires in three months.

Speaking in a Senate Environment and Public Works Committee hearing with NRC commissioners, Sessions called on the president to act soon to ensure Commissioner Kristine Svinicki, a Bush appointee, isn’t forced off the five-member agency.
