Law360, New York (October 12, 2003, 12:00 AM ET) -- Pfizer's Indian subsidiary is urging the government to take a "firm and transparent" stand on issues such as data exclusivity and product patents, the Financial Express reported.
The Indian government was required by TRIPS, the World Trade Organization's Intellectual Property Agreement, to provide data protection by 2000. Data exclusivity and product patents have to be enacted before the end of next year. However, Pfizer claims that local pharmaceutical companies are pressuring the government to slow implementation on data exclusivity, undermining clinical research and new-product registrations....
