Law360, New York (May 01, 2012, 10:44 PM ET) -- New York will become the first state to make pro bono service a requirement for admission to the bar, New York Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman said Tuesday at the Court of Appeals' Law Day celebrations.
Calling on new attorneys to demonstrate a commitment to benefiting the community and fostering equal justice, Judge Lippman announced that a minimum of 50 hours of pro bono service will be required of all attorneys seeking admission to the bar in New York.
