Law360, New York (June 28, 2012, 10:53 AM ET) -- The individual mandate is constitutional under Congress' taxing powers, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday, in a 5-4 decision led by Chief Justice John Roberts that leaves President Barack Obama's entire health care law standing.
In Roberts' opinion, the majority found that it is within Congress' authority to level a tax penalty against Americans for not carrying health insurance.
