Law360, San Diego (July 19, 2012, 10:32 PM ET) -- Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday approved legislation to fund the first leg of California’s $68.4 billion high-speed rail plan, saying the project will create jobs and make critical improvements to the state’s transportation system.
The governor signed S.B. 1029, which appropriated $7.9 billion — $3.2 billion of which came from federal funds — to the California High-Speed Rail Authority to allow it to get under way with the first phase of construction in the Central Valley: a 130-mile section between Bakersfield and Fresno.
