Senator Calls For Ban On Flavored Cigars

Law360, New York (August 10, 2012, 7:03 PM ET) -- Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., on Thursday again called for a federal ban on flavored cigars, citing a recent report revealing otherwise successful efforts to reduce tobacco use among high school students had proven far less effective with regard to cigar smoking.

Tobacco companies have successfully circumvented a ban on flavored cigarettes enacted under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009 by simply remarketing their products as flavored cigars, leading to a dramatic increase in youth cigar use, Lautenberg said in a statement....
