Law360, New York (July 17, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- A controversial bill that would expand federal funding for stem-cell research will likely pass the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, setting the stage for President Bush’s first veto.
The bill, which has divided legislators and the American public, would ease restrictions that allow federal money to only be spent on embryonic-cell lines created before August 2001. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the measure last year by a vote of 238-194.
