Scott Brown Advocates Criminal Probe Into Fannie, Freddie

Law360, New York (December 22, 2011, 7:42 PM ET) -- Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., on Thursday called on the U.S. Department of Justice to open a criminal investigation into Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, unsatisfied with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's civil lawsuit launched last week against the companies.

In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro, he said the SEC's recent fraud claims against the companies did "not go nearly far enough to achieve justice and accountability for the American people."
