Roommate Seekers Can Discriminate: 9th Circ.

Law360, New York (February 02, 2012, 8:25 PM ET) -- The Ninth Circuit ruled Thursday that anti-discrimination provisions of federal housing laws do not extend to shared living arrangements, siding with LLC, which operates a website that allows roommate solicitations that include preferences for religion and other protected categories.

“While we usually share our homes only with friends and family, sometimes we need to take in a stranger to help pay the rent. When that happens, can the government limit whom we choose?” U.S. Circuit Judge Alex Kozinski wrote for the appeals court.
