Deals Rumor Mill: Staples, Anheuser-Busch, BATS

By Benjamin Horney (November 30, 2015, 7:38 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission is planning to block Staples Inc. and Office Depot Inc.'s planned $6.3 billion merger due to concerns that the deal will eliminate competition in the office-supplies industry, Reuters reported Monday. According to the report, the FTC has delayed its ultimate decision and will ask the companies to make significant divestitures. The deal, announced in February, has not had an easy road to completion. In addition to in-depth probes by the FTC and the European Commission, the deal has been the subject of at least one lawsuit filed by a union representing U.S. Postal Service workers who claim the proposed tie-up would create a monopoly....
