Law360, New York (July 19, 2011, 2:34 PM ET) -- In an occasionally contentious hearing, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Tuesday approved proposed rules for how quickly derivative clearinghouses must approve or reject a trade as well as risk management requirements for derivative market participants.
The CFTC also unanimously approved three final rules establishing the process by which the commission would determine whether a swap qualified for mandatory clearing; approve new rules set up by derivative clearinghouses; and ending the reliance on credit ratings agencies in evaluating financial products.
