SEC Accuses Ex-Syntax Auditor Of Aiding Earnings Fraud

Law360, New York (January 30, 2012, 5:50 PM ET) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday filed claims in Arizona accusing a former auditor for Syntax-Brillian Corp. of aiding and abetting a securities fraud scheme at the defunct television maker by knowingly concealing the company’s overstatements of revenue.

Robert Chiu, 52, who was a partner at Grobstein Horwath & Co. LLP, an accounting firm that provided audit services for Syntax in 2006, allegedly aided and abetted a fraudulent revenue recognition scheme for the liquid crystal display television developer and distributor, according to the complaint....
