Judge Orders Microsoft To Pay $1.5B Award

Law360, New York (May 02, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- A federal judge on Monday directed Microsoft Corp. to pay rival Alcatel-Lucent the $1.5 billion damages award decreed by a jury in February.

Following the jury’s verdict, which brought down the largest damages amount ever awarded in a patent case, Judge Rudi M. Brewster of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California allowed the parties to present evidence to determine ownership, license, inequitable conduct and various other non-jury issues relating to the two patents-in-suit, court documents said.
