It was an effort to lower the cost of automobile replacement parts and automobile insurance premiums. Hearings were held, there was substantial opposition to the legislation, and it was not passed. The legislation has been substantially revised and was recently introduced by Reps. Darrell E. Issa, R-Calif., and Zoe Zoe LofgrenLofgren, D-Calif., as H.R. 3889. It seeks to significantly limit the period of exclusivity of U.S. design patents for automobile parts....
