Microsoft Gives Up, Accepts €497M Fine

Law360, New York (October 22, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- Microsoft Corp. said Monday that it would not appeal a ruling by Europe's second-highest court that it should pay a €497 million fine for allegedly overcharging competitors for technical information needed to sync its Windows operating system with media player software.

The software giant will now pay at least €497 million in fines – and possibly hundreds of millions of euros more – that have been imposed by the European Commission since 2004. The European Court of First Instance upheld the EC's decision last month....
