US Agencies Get Major Update To Cybersecurity Guidelines

Law360, New York (May 01, 2013, 7:33 PM ET) -- The National Institute of Standards and Technology on Tuesday published its first major update to the data security and privacy guidelines for federal agencies, adding guidance for handling insider threats, risks in supply contracts, and mobile and cloud computing technologies.

Under the Information Security Management Act, the Office of Management and Budget and the NIST take the lead in setting minimum security requirements used across the federal government, such as giving tips for secure passwords or requiring physical security for sensitive computer systems.
