Tech Cos. Urge Quick Move On Surveillance Reform Bills

Law360, Washington (September 30, 2013, 4:33 PM EDT) -- Apple Inc., Facebook Inc. and a coalition of dozens of other technology companies and advocacy groups asked lawmakers Monday to swiftly consider two bills that would allow them to disclose information about government intelligence agencies’ demands for user data, saying they strongly supported the legislation.
The letter urged the chairmen and ranking members of both the House and Senate judiciary committees to “quickly move forward” to consider S. 1452, the Surveillance Transparency Act, and a similar House bill, H.R. 3035, the Surveillance Order Reporting Act. The bills...
