Law360, New York (March 08, 2012, 9:03 PM ET) -- A Texas federal jury awarded approximately $170 million in damages to General Electric Co. after finding that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. had infringed one of its patents covering wind turbine technology.
Although the court had previously ruled that Mitsubishi did not infringe U.S. Patent Number 6,879,055, which covers a base frame for mounting the shaft of the turbine's rotor, the jury found that the company had infringed U.S. Patent Number 7,629,705, titled "Method and apparatus for operating electrical machines."
