Fla. Gov. Signs Trade Secrets Bills Backed By P3 Industry

Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed two bills into law Wednesday, expanding the definition of a trade secret to include companies' financial information and exempting companies from public records laws, measures proponents said would help attract companies to the state for public-private partnership projects.

Scott signed S.B. 180, which brings financial information under the trade secrets umbrella, and a companion bill S.B. 182, which creates the public records exemption. Both bills sailed through the Florida Legislature with few dissenting votes.
