The National Labor Relations Board was right to clear the way for workers at a Starbucks Reserve Roastery in New York City to wear multiple union pins, Workers United told the Second Circuit, asking the court to preserve the board's invalidation of the roastery's one-pin rule.

The National Labor Relations Board defended Tuesday its conclusions that a policy preventing workers from wearing multiple union pins at the Starbucks New York City Roastery is unlawful, telling the Second Circuit that the court's 2012 decision upholding a one-button rule isn't applicable.

The Second Circuit must reverse a National Labor Relations Board decision finding that barring employees at a Manhattan Starbucks from wearing more than one union pin is illegal, the coffee giant argued, saying the board ignored a 2012 ruling from the same appeals court upholding the policy.
