Fannie Mae has urged a Washington, D.C., federal court to reject arguments that a unit of AIG does not need to cover the lender's costs from a 2022 settlement with nonprofits over allegedly discriminatory housing maintenance practices, saying the insurer is resting its counterclaim on "ambiguous contractual provisions."

Fannie Mae has sued two insurers in Washington, D.C., federal court, alleging they refused to cover the costs of a 2022 settlement with nonprofits that argued the lender failed to maintain properties it obtained through foreclosure in communities of color at the same level as similar homes in largely white areas.
