A Pennsylvania federal judge signed off Sunday on a deal to settle U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claims accusing the medical staffing firm Maxim Healthcare Services Inc. of refusing to hire an applicant because he was HIV-positive.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission accused Pittsburgh-based medical staffing firm Maxim Healthcare Services Inc. of refusing to hire an HIV-positive applicant because of his disability, in a suit filed Monday in Pennsylvania federal court.
