The Federal Circuit on Thursday affirmed a lower court's decision that a pricing patent asserted against Amazon.com Inc. is invalid, saying the patent is directed only to an abstract idea under framework established by the U.S. Supreme Court's Alice ruling, marking the appellate court's first invocation of Alice this year.
