A Texas bankruptcy judge on Wednesday granted final approval to Party City's plan to strip away about $1 billion of debt and provide capital for the retailer's exit from bankruptcy, while shrinking its store footprint and renegotiating leases.

Party supplies retailer Party City received interim approval Wednesday to tap into a $150 million debtor-in-possession loan after a Texas bankruptcy judge overruled the objections of secured lenders concerned over their rights to participate in the funding and to oppose an eventual bankruptcy plan.
