An Oklahoma federal judge on Monday ruled that the Teamsters' international union must face a former office worker's lawsuit seeking unpaid overtime and severance, saying she had presented enough evidence to suggest the union was responsible for decisions about her termination and pay.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has asked an Oklahoma federal court to toss a lawsuit claiming that a former employee for a local branch of the union was stiffed on overtime and severance pay, arguing that the suit falls short in stating a claim against the international union.
A Teamsters local violated federal and state law by failing to pay a former employee overtime or provide her with severance pay after the union closed down the office where she worked, according to a complaint filed in Oklahoma federal court.
