APEC leaders approve South Korea-proposed AI Initiative
( November 1, 2025, 05:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, or APEC, on Saturday approved the launch of an Artificial Intelligence Initiative for 2026–2030 at the end of their annual meetings, with a shared vision to “harness the transformative potential of AI as a catalyst for economic growth while addressing challenges in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.” The leaders of the 21 APEC member economies said in a statement that the initiative is aimed at ensuring inclusive growth and equitable participation in the digital era. The initiative sets three strategic objectives: advancing AI innovation to promote resilient growth, building AI capacities across all sectors and cultivating investment in resilient AI infrastructure. They acknowledged South Korea’s decision to establish an Asia-Pacific AI Center, which will be self-funded and independently operated by South Korea, to promote AI-related capacity building and innovation and facilitate information sharing in the region, as well as similar initiatives and efforts by other economies.The statement is attached....
