Australian antitrust regulator to review wholesale mobile services competition

In a statement on Wednesday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said the 12-month inquiry will also assess whether regulating wholesale access to some mobile services could improve consumer outcomes, and whether consumers have meaningful choice between mobile providers. In a separate statement, Australian communications minister Anika Wells said the independent inquiry will complement the government’s Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation, which will require telecommunications companies Telstra, Optus and TPG to provide “reasonable outdoor access to SMS and voice calls throughout Australia.”Statements follow.ACCC launches mobile services inquiry...
