LSO presents honorary doctorate to Dr. Peter Jaffe

Law360 Canada (June 17, 2025, 4:26 PM EDT) -- The Law Society of Ontario (LSO) has awarded an honorary degree to Dr. Peter Jaffe.

According to an announcement by the law society, Jaffe was conferred a degree of doctor of laws, honoris causa (LLD), at the June 16, 2025, Call to the Bar ceremony in London, Ont.

Jaffe is a psychologist and professor emeritus in the faculty of education at Western University and the director emeritus of the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children. Throughout his career, he has worked to improve how cases of family violence and the abuse of women and children are dealt with in Canada’s legal, educational and social services.

According to the law society, Jaffe’s expertise has been sought by all levels of government and judicial organizations in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica and Europe. He has co-authored 12 books and several articles related to domestic violence, its impact on children, homicide prevention and the role of the criminal and family justice system.

In 2009, he was named an Officer of the Order of Canada.

The LSO awards honorary doctorates each year to distinguished individuals in recognition of outstanding achievements in service to the legal professions, the rule of law and the cause of justice.
