A California federal judge on Tuesday said a proposed class action against an Aetna Inc. unit accusing the insurer of capping benefits for autism spectrum disorder treatments in violation of the Employment Retirement Income Security Act must be handled through arbitration.

Aetna Inc. and a California affiliate were hit with a proposed class action in California federal court on Monday, alleging that the health insurance giant wrongly caps benefits for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder, in violation of state and federal health laws.
