South Korean prosecutors push for bigger role in antitrust enforcement

As part of the change, the lead prosecutor says the team aims to strengthen criminal enforcement tools and build capacity for direct action. The shift comes amid broader efforts to build institutional capacity and ahead of next week's presidential election that could bring changes in personnel. For years, South Korea’s antitrust prosecutors have operated largely in the background — quietly building criminal cases after the Korea Fair Trade Commission, or KFTC, handed them over.
