PTAB leaders shine light on Squires 'summary notice' decisions

Expect “thumbs up or thumbs down” decisions, they said at a webinar Wednesday. Such decisions will be in sharp contrast to the detailed decisions that have helped inform PTAB practitioners of best practices before the board.As predicted following US Patent and Trademark Office Director John Squires’ announcement earlier this month that he would handle inter partes review (IPR) and post-grant review (PGR) petition institution decisions before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, practitioners will no longer receive the detailed reasoning they have come to expect from PTAB judges....
