TikTok must notify users about data transfers to China, German DPA says

( December 18, 2025, 14:22 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Chinese social-media platform TikTok must make a new transparency requirement obligatory, and must inform its European users of data transfers to countries outside the EU — including China, where data protection rules may not be adequate — Berlin’s data watchdog said on Thursday. Users, particularly younger ones, are often unaware of TikTok’s data collection practices that include “click behavior, location data, contact information, and sometimes financial data," the DPA said, welcoming the decision.
