News publishers move for judgment against Microsoft, OpenAI in US copyright case

( September 4, 2026, 16:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: News publishers moved for summary judgment in their US copyright case against Microsoft and OpenAI over their use of their content to train artificial intelligence models, arguing that the AI's results substitute for their works. "As Microsoft's lead counsel put it, the advantage of such AI chatbots 'is that they are actually designed to answer your question' rather than 'just giving you a series of links to things you can go look for yourself and maybe find the information,' — that is, they divert users from visiting publishers who created the copied work," they said.
