South Korea's privacy regulator commissions study to preempt AI data risks

The Personal Information Protection Commission said as large language models move from pilot testing to full-scale deployment, many complex data-processing methods are emerging that current one-size-fits-all privacy standards are struggling to address. Over a five-month period, the study will survey how AI systems are being implemented in both public and private sectors, focusing on how data is collected and processed. It will also analyze specific privacy risks tied to externally sourced generative AI, fine-tuning and retrieval-augmented generation, which account for a significant share of AI adoption in the country.
