South Korea invests in AI chip design, testing equipment to support fabless firms

( May 12, 2025, 08:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s fabless semiconductor companies will gain access to high-end equipment for AI chip design and performance verification under two state initiatives with a total investment of 66.8 billion won (about $49 million), according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Under the first initiative, the ministry will invest 45.1 billion won to purchase advanced equipment for chip design and performance testing, which will be installed at a dedicated center for shared industry use. The second initiative, backed by 21.7 billion won, will focus on acquiring equipment for testing and verifying AI chips while providing technical support.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
