The EU-US Data Privacy Framework agreement, implemented in July 2023, is the third attempt to put trillions of dollars’ worth of trade between the EU and the US on a new legal footing after the previous two mechanisms, the Safe Harbor and the Privacy Shield, were struck down by the EU’s top court for failing to sufficiently safeguard European citizens’ personal information.
