Vietnam adds cross-border data transfer exemptions to draft data-protection law

( May 12, 2025, 05:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: Vietnam has published the latest draft of its upcoming personal data protection law. The draft adds public service units and units piloting special mechanisms and policies in science, technology and national digital transformation to the list of cases exempt from submitting impact assessment dossiers when transferring the personal data of Vietnamese citizens across borders. It also removes lists defining personal data and sensitive personal data, indicating that a separate government document will later categorize them. This draft was presented to and received feedback from Vietnam’s National Assembly last May 5, during the legislature's ongoing 9th session.
