UK gaming sector pushes back against study criticizing loot box use

The study published on Wednesday in the Royal Society Open Science journal said none of the 100 top iPhone games had effective age checks before in-app purchases, contradicting principles agreed by the industry in 2023.UK Interactive Entertainment, the main gaming trade body known as Ukie, today rejected a study which said there was widespread non-compliance with the industry principles designed to prevent children from accessing loot boxes, which offer users random in-game items in exchange for money. ...
