China's MIIT flags 57 Apps for illicit personal-data collection, use

( June 26, 2025, 08:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Spark Education, an app offering primary and secondary tutoring services, along with bike-sharing platform iRiding and Daily Short Drama, a short drama app, are among 57 applications and SDKs flagged by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, or MIIT, for illicit personal-data collection and use. Testing by MIIT — part of a government crackdown on data-protection violations — revealed that these apps either excessively collected personal information or made forceful, frequent and excessive permission requests. In addition, some SDKs were found to have inadequately disclosed information to the public. App and SDK operators are urged to rectify these issues promptly or face enforcement actions.
